Even though some areas saw a little bit of snow Wednesday night, it’s April, so you might be ready to put your snow blower away for the season. But there are some things you should do before you put it away in storage.

If you don’t do some maintenance now, you may have problems when you try and start your snow blower up for next winter. You want to make sure that your blower’s fuel system is in good working order, said Paul Szapienski of Foster Farrar in Northampton.

“You either drain your fuel by actually pulling it out, you can actually run it out of fuel for your storage. If you want to store it with fuel in it, add any sort of fuel stabilizer,” Szapienski said.

Szapienski added that if you add fuel stabilizer, you should run the snow blower so it gets into the fuel lines and the carburetor. This will help prevent varnish build up that may cause your snow blower to not start next winter. It’s also a good idea to check the belts, as well.
