Briggs Plant Produces 70 Millionth Engine
The Murray, Ky. engine plant operated by Briggs & Stratton Corp. recently produced its 70 millionth small engine. Officials at the facility hosted a ceremony honoring the accomplishment. The Murray plant has been in operation since 1985 when it moved into a former Tappan stove plant.
The milestone engine produced was an L Head model that will be phased out in early 2013, paving way for a new overhead valve (OHV) engine that produces 35% less emissions. In the past year, Briggs & Stratton has invested $30 million at the Murray plant, which employs 1,000, to handle the new engine line.
