Peerless Gear Purchases Comet Clutch, TecumsehPower

Several legacy brands—Comet Clutch, TecumsehPower, and Hoffco Outdoor Power Equipment—have been sold to Peerless Gear, located in Salem, Ind. The move consolidates these brands into Peerless Gear’s operations, which includes Certified Parts Corp. (CPC), allowing for expanded production capabilities for in-house machining of gears, shafts, and components along with consolidating, broaching, balancing, and close tolerance machining required in carburetors, clutches, and torque converters.

Grafft also highlighted that the sale will ensure continued production of legacy components and service parts, including those for TecumsehPower engines and reshored carburetors, which aligns with the goal of keeping manufacturing “Made in the U.S.A.”

Along with its focus on manufacturing service parts, CPC has become a major supplier to OEMs and is also known for its vintage brands like Indian, Rupp, and Chris-Craft, among others.
