Husqvarna Battery Box
Husqvarna’s new tool sharing project allows users to rent power equipment from a kiosk using an app and credit card. Called the Husqvarna Battery Box, the project is a way to gauge consumer interest in the “sharing economy” concept. The box is already installed at a shopping center in Stockholm.
“To share products used only occasionally, like a hedge trimmer, makes a lot of sense for some users,” says Pavel Hajman, President. In addition, the project is proof of Husqvarna’s commitment to developing power equipment solutions that merge innovation and sustainability.
The Husqvarna Battery Box is an unattended “smart” container measuring 8x3m with 30 electronic lockers. Using an app, consumers can reserve tools; get instructions; pay; and then open a locker to pick up their pre-selected piece of equipment. According to Husqvarna, renting a tool in such a manner costs 350 Swedish krona ($38 U.S.).
Working with Husqvarna on the project are partners
- Flex, which builds the container and connections
- Zora is supplying the subscription payment system
- HiQ is building the app
- Telenor Connexion is providing integration and communication services for the overall project
In addition to supporting Husqvarna’s sustainability commitment, the project will also explore the real-world applications and other market insights.
